

Mary Ellen Stapp Bryant, 84, of Birmingham, went to be with her Lord with family by her side on October 8. Mary was born in Aliceville, AL on September 19, 1934. She was raised there, and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas E. Bryant, Jr. Mrs. Bryant was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama, where she majored in Education, and was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She was a school teacher for 15 years, and a member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham, where she enjoyed volunteering for many years in the church library. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother and Mimi who dedicated her life to serving others. She was most proud of her family, especially her two granddaughters. Mary loved travelling with her family, especially to the beach, and taking care of her children and granddaughters. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed cooking and playing the piano.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas E. Bryant Jr.; her parents, William Colbay and Jessie Katrine Stapp; and her sister, Betty Stapp Holt. Mary is survived by her children, Melissa (Joe) Lassiter, Thomas (Tandy) Bryant III both of Birmingham, and Mary Kate Walker of Pensacola, FL; and her two granddaughters, Lauren and Caroline Lassiter of Atlanta, GA.
There will be a graveside service October 12, 2018 at 1:00pm at Magnolia Memorial Gardens,
9654 Hwy 14 NW, Aliceville, Al 35442. The family would like to thank her friend and caregiver Paula Cannon, the staff at Fair Haven LTC2 for their care, kindness and love over the last few years and Oasis Hospice. in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the First Baptist Church of Birmingham Library (2209 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35209).
