

Mary Ann Dyer, age 90 of Homewood, Alabama passed early Sunday morning of March 20, 2022. She was born November 26, 1931 in Birmingham to the late Curtis J. Green and Ira Camp Green. The family moved to Arab, AL in the first year of her life. She lived there until she graduated from high school in 1949. She and her family were members of Arab First Baptist Church where her grandparents were charter members.
After graduation from Arab High School, she attended Birmingham-Southern College where he was a member of Zeta Alpha Sorority. While at Birmingham-Southern, she met and married Robert Bruce Dyer of Bessemer, AL. They graduated from Southern together in 1953. After graduation, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Ann began her teaching career at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in 1953 and taught there for eleven years. She postponed her career when she and Bobby adopted two children, William Randall “Randy” Dyer and Carol Lynn Dyer. They moved to Homewood where they later became members of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. After the children reached school age, she returned to school at UAB where she earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She returned to teaching in Hoover, teaching first at Green Valley Elementary and then at Gwin Elementary and Berry Middle School, where she retired from in 1996. In 1998, she began to work at Alabama Kidney Foundation where she worked until 2020.
Ann is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bobby and her daughter Carol. She is survived by her son, Randy, and his wife Isabel; three grandchildren, Cody, Sara and Jordan Dyer; a sister, Doris Head of Arab and two sisters-in-law, Mary Kate Dyer of Cahaba Heights and Anne B. Dyer of Montevallo; three nieces, Patsy Hyatt of Cedar Bluff, Sherry Holland of Decatur and Renea Dyer of Montevallo; two nephews, Shannon Head of Arab and Tom Dyer of Birmingham
A visitation for Ann will be held Thursday the 24th of March beginning at one thirty in the afternoon at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209. The funeral service will follow at two thirty in the afternoon with Tommy Sanders officiating. The committal will immediately follow, via escorted cortege to Elmwood Cemetery.
