

Born Mary Joan Behen, June 6, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan her family moved to Lombard, IL in 1946 and she lived in the Greater Chicago area until moving to Lake Worth, FL in 1976 and to Birmingham, AL. in 1984. She was employed from 1984 until retirement in 2002 at Buffalo Rock Co. Corporate Offices in Homewood, AL at which time she started BEHAN GOOD MEDIA out of her home for 2 years.
Mrs. Behan was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Behan, of County Mayo, Ireland; her parents, John & Helen Behen; her nephew, Robert Humphrey and brother-in-law, Sam Armato. Mrs. Behan is survived by her children, Patrick J.(Valyn) Behan of Tuscaloosa, Al.; Michael J. Behan of Hampton, Va; John J. Behan, Jr (Tamra) of Concord, NC, Kathryn M. Behan of Concord, NC. Grandchildren: Brian Behan. David Behan, Maygan Smitherman, Hannah Smitherman, Will Behan, John J. Behan III, Tanya (Clif) Taylor, Keely (Andrew)Winstead, and Great Grandsons: Aiden Smitherman, David Behan, Jr, Cayden Taylor and Conner Behan and Great Granddaughter Maylin Taylor, Sisters: Marge Armato of Rockford, IL, and Frances (Gerald) Humphrey of Chesterton, IN and many nephews & nieces.
Mrs. Behan was very active in Business & Professional Women/ USA and Alabama and local Birmingham BPW; Alabama BPW Foundation; Birmingham Women’s Junior Chamber of Commerce; Birmingham Ad Club; St. Francis Xavier Sodality & St. Martha’s Band and was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis for several years, especially at the 11 am Sunday Mass and at the 8 am daily service.Memorial service will be on Aug 4th at 11am with family visitation at 10am at St. Francis Xavier Church In lieu of flowers she has requested donations to St Francis Xavier Catholic Church Magis Fund, YWCA Domestic Violence Center or the YWCA Kids’ Korner Children’s Fund.
