

Mary Williams Nash, of Birmingham, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Mary was the daughter of the late Paul James Williams and Eleanor Hazen Williams. Mary was born on April 1, 1934 in Athens, GA, where she spent her childhood and attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu.
In 1952, she married R. Nelson Nash, also of Athens. Mary and Nelson shared 66 years of marriage, during which they delighted in traveling extensively across the United States and Canada as part of the Nelson Nash Institute. Mary was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Birmingham.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her three children: Debby Nash Mathews (Jake Jr.) of Anniston, AL, Dr. Barrington Nelson Nash (Claudia) of Knoxville, TN, and Kimberly Nash Stearns (David) of Birmingham. Mary is also survived by her brother Henry David Williams, by ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband R. Nelson Nash, by her parents, Paul James Williams and Eleanor Hazen Williams, her brother Paul Richard Williams, by her daughter-in-law, Janel Kong Nash, and by her great-grandsons Austin Patrick Ladner and Isaac Raleigh Ladner.
A memorial service will be held on April 1, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Birmingham at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Birmingham, 2209 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35209.
