Michael Hamilton

Mike was born in Birmingham, Alabama and was graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Samford University and worked in the family business, Hamilton Oxygen Service. For over 50 years, he dedicated his life to the DME industry, setting an incredible example of hard work, integrity, and passion. He served as the President of the National Association of Medical Equipment Suppliers, co-founded ADMEA (Alabama Durable Medical Equipment Association) and championed landmark victories in licensure and tax relief for the DME industry in Washington. His tireless advocacy and wisdom will leave a lasting legacy.

Classical music brought him great joy. He was a member of the choir at Vestavia Hills Baptist and attended every possible musical performance at Samford University and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ouida, his parents Wilson and Dee Hamilton of Birmingham, AL, and his brother, Rick Hamilton of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Patterson of Birmingham, AL, two children, Michele Baker (Bill) of Richardson, TX, and Dr. Kevin Hamilton (Christy) of Nashville, TN, honorary daughter, Tracy Caldwell (Greg) of Homewood AL, four grandchildren, Hamilton Baker of Atlanta, GA, Chandler Ewen (Stuart) of Kirkland, WA, Hunter Hamilton of Dallas, TX and Lady Frances Hamilton of Nashville, TN, two great-granddaughters, Hazel and Dorothy Ewen, nephew, Matt Hamilton (Jennifer), niece, Katie Feighner (Barrett) and their children.

A memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will be held at the Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, on Friday, January 9th at 1:00 pm with a visitation reception following.
