Muriel Bessie Lyford

Muriel Bessie Jones Lyford, age 90, passed away Tuesday,July 24, 2012 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles Coolidge Lyford, Jr. She is survived by her children, Charles Coolidge Lyford, III (Jo Karen), Judith Mead, Benjamin C. Lyford (Junie), and Pamela Smith (Mike); her grandchildren, Grant Smith, Matthew Smith, Meagan Smith, Courtney Grammer, Tammy Phillips (Kenny), Ashley Mead, and Lindsey Lyford; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Voiron, Mya Kathleen Voiron, Trae Phillips, Kodee Phillips, and Justin Grammer. A native of Grand Turk, British West Indies, she served many as a registered nurse during World War II. She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family very much. Muriel was a thoughtful, caring individual who always put others before herself. The wife of a Navy Lieutenant Commander, she proudly served her country as well. She will be deeply missed, but her life lessons and steadfast example will live on through all who knew her. She was truly a blessing to all and the "Rock" that our family leaned on. Burial will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012, at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola NAS. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
