She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kingsley (married for 47 years); children: Samuel (Jenny), Paul (Shobha), David (Nishy); grandchildren: Aiden, Karina and Kaelan; brother Ravi (Julia) Joseph; sister Priya, as well as many relatives and friends.
Nalini was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Samuel Victor Joseph, and her mother, Leila Joseph.
Nalini was born on March 2, 1947 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She received her medical degree from Stanley Medical College, class of 1963 and later received her PHD from University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1992.
Nalini worked as a Pediatrician for over 20 years. She was a missionary doctor in Nigeria for 6 years. Afterwards, she became a Professor of Epidemiology and worked at UAB for 30 years. In a career spanning more than 50 years, she made a profound impact in the medical field with over a 100 published articles in scientific journals. She was instrumental in setting up public health systems in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine.
She was a guiding light for her family and friends and a true servant in Christ, bettering the lives for all those around her.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family from nine o'clock in the morning until ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 5th of October at St. Mark United Methodist Church located at 2901 Columbiana Road, Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216. Funeral services for Dr. Sathiakumar will commence at ten o'clock in the morning with Reverend Drew Clayton and Reverend Patrick Friday officiating. Immediately following the service the burial will be held, via escorted cortege, at Elmwood Cemetery. After burial rites, friends are again invited to the reception and celebration of her life at St. Mark United Methodist Church commencing at Noon. Lunch will be provided.
