

Nelda Dutton Osment, 88, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away on April 6, 2016. A memorial service will be hosted at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, 3405 Brookwood Road, on Tuesday, April 12, at 2 p.m. Visitation to follow.
Mrs. Osment was preceded in death by her father, Fred Dutton, her mother, Burlie Key Dutton, and her husband, Dr. Lamar S. Osment. She is survived by her daughter, Rachael Pippen and her husband, Harris Albert Pippen III, of Mountain Brook; granddaughters, Virginia Parker Pippen and Katharine Harris Pippen; brother-in-law James Parker Osment (Helen) of Orlando, Florida. There are many nieces and nephews who will miss her. She attended Barton Academy and Convent of Mercy schools of Mobile. She graduated from West End High School.
For many years, she was employed by Exchange Security Bank (now Regions Bank). She retired to become a full-time homemaker and mother. She was active in many civic clubs and support groups including Arlington Historical Association, Antiquarian Society (past president), Women’s Committee of One Hundred for Birmingham, Cherokee Rose Garden Club (past president), Les Soirees Supper Club (past president), Sixth Avenue Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School, Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, Birmingham Opera Guild, Birmingham Music Club, Silhouettes Dance Club, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Medallion Club, Birmingham Jefferson Historical Association, Alabama Historical Association, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama Symphony Volunteer Council, Jefferson County Medical Alliance, Handel Choral Society, Ballet Women’s Club, and the Margaret Sizemore-Dan Brooks antique group at Samford University.
For her entire life, Mrs. Osment took particular pleasure in traveling extensively with her husband. Their travels took them across Europe, the continental United States, and Mexico. Since the 1940s, one of their favorite places to visit was the Florida panhandle and, specifically, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, where they owned a condominium on Okaloosa Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Mrs. Osment’s name to the Osment Memorial Garden, Arlington Historical Association, 331 Cotton Avenue, Birmingham, Ala. 35211.
