

He is survived by his beloved and loving wife of 66 years, Mary Wilson Dick and 3 children: Rebecca Dick Peinhardt (Curt), Mary Kay Dick Allen (Danny), and David Kellar Dick (Tracey). He had six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter: Kate Blackmon (William), Patrick Allen, Courtney Stidham (Jonathan), Ashley Allen, Lindsay Dick, Aimee Dick, and Abigail Whitehead. He is also survived by brother, Gayle Dick of Ruston, Louisiana and preceded in death by brother, Leland Rodney Dick of Shreveport, LA.
Mr. Dick was born in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, on May 17, 1929 where he grew up and excelled in school sports. He graduated from Northwestern State College of Louisiana in Natchitoches, LA., with a degree in education and earned a master’s degree in school administration from Louisiana State University in 1954. He taught sixth grade and high school physical education in the Springhill, Louisiana school system, later joining the sales force of World Book Encyclopedia with Field Enterprises Educational Corporation. He built an outstanding sales organization and was one of World Book’s most successful branch managers, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Dick served as a deacon and trustee for McElwain Baptist Church for many years contributing to the oversight and construction of the current sanctuary and to the development of church leaders and teachers. He supported Alabama Baptists in numerous ways throughout his life. He loved children and taught Sunday School at Brookwood Baptist Church in later years.
He was interested in many things throughout his lifetime, including metal detecting, hunting, fishing, archery, radio-controlled airplanes, and photography. He loved flying and was a licensed private pilot. He enjoyed gospel and instrumental music very much, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His greatest service was a commitment to the spiritual welfare of the people around him and he always expressed his love to family and friends. His children loved and honored him through all the days of his life.
Funeral service will be held at Brookwood Baptist Church Tuesday, November 22 at 11AM. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM.
In lieu of flowers his family requests donations be sent to The Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes or the charity of your choice.
