Paul Anthony McGuinness

Paul A. McGuinness died peacefully in Vestavia Hills, AL on September 8, 2018 at the age of 87.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years Patricia McGuinness, his son Tony McGuinness, two daughters Sharon Perales and husband Ruben Perales, Tanya Beck and husband Josh Beck, and his grandchildren Ruben Perales Jr. and Daniel McGuinness. He is also survived by his brother Bernard and his sister Joan. He is preceded in death by his parents Owen and Josephine McGuinness, his twin brothers Gerald & Peter and his daughter Julie.
Paul was born on December 24, 1930 in Liverpool, England. In his early adulthood, he was a champion jazz dancer, dancing many nights at the famed Cavern Club in Liverpool. Paul served as an engineer in the Royal Air Force in the late 1940’s. After the RAF, he worked as an engineer in a tool & die company. Later he worked for Mattel toys. In 1973, Paul and his family moved to Seal Beach, CA where he worked as a toy executive for Applause (previously known as Wallace Berrie Company). In 1984, he and his family moved to Hong Kong where he served as a vice president for Applause. He was an extremely accomplished toy executive, traveling all over the world working to bring toys to the market that children loved. Growing up and even into his late 70’s, Paul was an extremely avid soccer player. He played all over the world in a senior’s league up until 2009. He was an avid runner with a 10K PR of 36 minutes at the age of 50. He had a great sense of humor and a passion for life like no other. He was a joyful person who had a pure and contagious love for life.
Memorial services will be private on September 30, 2018. Should friends desire, contributions to Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama would be greatly appreciated.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the McGuinness Family during this time of bereavement. He was a close friend and neighbour when our kids grew up. We have beautiful memories of his love of soccer and passion promoting it.
