On Friday morning, Pete Petro stepped into the loving arms of eternity. Waiting for him was his sister, Grace, as well as a host of other family members and friends. No doubt there was great rejoicing upon his arrival in heaven. Pete’s beautiful smile and infectious personality will be sorely missed by those he left behind. His lazer focus on the task at hand and his desire to do his best defined so much of his life. Pete graduated with highest honors in both undergraduate and graduate school from Samford University. He cherished his time at Samford, forming lifelong bonds with professors, students, and administration. He also received his CPA designation – an accomplishment which he did not take lightly. Pete worked for the past two years at The Onin Group. It was more than a job for Pete – he considered them family as well. His greatest legacy, however, is the love he had for others. He was never too busy to be there for those he cared about.
Pete was an old soul, who was wise beyond his years. He looked at life in a way few of us ever really do – he had an understanding of it that defied explanation. More than anything, his strong faith in God kept him afloat during his most trying times. Pete also had a great sense of humor, and could always be counted on to say the funniest things. His toasts and speeches were legendary. He had a twinkle in his eye and a zest for life that will never be forgotten. Pete Petro left a mark on this world that few of us can ever hope to accomplish. Although God’s timing is always perfect, we can’t help but feel his beautiful light left us too soon. He left us wanting more, which is how he would want it to be.
Pete was predeceased by his beloved sister, Grace Arello, as well as maternal grandparents Clarence and Dorothy Cox and paternal grandfather Pete Petro. Survivors include his parents, Paul and Kathy Petro, and his paternal grandmother, Alice Petro. Pete leaves behind his cherished godsons, Graham Cates and Parker Petro, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as the best friends a guy could ask for. And finally, he leaves behind his much loved constant companion, his golden retriever, Maggie.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in memory of Pete be made to the Pete Petro Scholarship Fund benefitting the Brock School of Business.
A memorial service in honor of Pete will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday the 17th of June 2022 at St. Peter’s the Apostle Catholic Church, 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, AL 35216. A time of fellowship and reception will immediately follow in the Parish Hall.
