Peyton was born in Florence, Alabama, to Robert “Mack” and Sheila Gambrell. He attended Mountain Brook High School, where he was active in sports, and later earned his degree in building science from Auburn University.
In 2005, Peyton began his professional career at Midwest Mechanical Contractors in Kansas. It was during this time that Peyton met Tenessa Ulbrich, who would become his wife. When they married in 2007, he also became father to Tenessa’s daughter, Kaylee. In 2011, they welcomed a son, Jackson, into their family. During this time, Peyton followed his entrepreneurial dream of owning his own business from 2009 to 2021.
In 2021, Peyton began working at construction firm Robins & Morton, where he spent the last five years of his life living in Edinburg, Texas; Jupiter, Florida; and Cary, North Carolina, leading the construction of healthcare facilities. He and his family embraced adventure and enjoyed becoming part of communities across the United States. That spirit carried over into his personal passion for international travel, which allowed him to share unique cultural experiences with his wife and children.
Peyton was a lifelong learner. He had a sharp memory and a tremendous capacity for education, a passion that he poured into his teammates at work and his children at home. Peyton was ambitious, resourceful, and the embodiment of quiet confidence. Starting his own business was the fulfillment of a dream, but he had no greater dream than to be a loving, present husband and father. His family can attest that he unequivocally succeeded, leaving a larger-than-life legacy in only 44 short years.
Peyton is preceded in death by his son, Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Tenessa; daughter, Kaylee; father, Robert; and mother, Sheila.
Peyton’s Celebration of Life will be held at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, located at 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama, on June 30. Visitation with the family will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
