Phyllis Ann Nixon, age 67, of Homewood, Al passed away on May 3, 2021. She was born to Jack and Susan Jones in Birmingham, Al on July 7, 1953. She attended Mountain Brook High School before working in the food industry for many years. She would later have the privilege of staying home to take care of and cherish her girls. Phyllis had a great love for animals and is considered a legend among dog rescues. She's known for having climbed wood ravines, sorted through wreckage, and searched abandoned buildings just to save a precious life. Phyllis did not hesitate to go to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina to help with dogs lost or trapped in the aftermath. She escorted countless dogs across the Midwest and northeast to ensure they had the opportunity to be placed with a loving family. Some of her favorite past times were spending time at their beach home with family and attending the Jazz Festival in Panama City Beach. Phyllis enjoyed the time raising her girls and never missed a chance to be front and center for a softball game or dance recital.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her father Jack L. Jones. She leaves behind her loving husband of 38 years John T. Nixon Jr.; mother, Susan Jones; children, Catherine Ellen Mills (Peter), Holly Ann Mosco (Christopher); sisters, Carolyn Vallese (Tony), and Patti Turbyfill; brother, David L. Jones (Missy); grandchildren, Winter, Aiden, Miette, Everly Grace, Berlin, Eden, and Nixon; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service to follow at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Internment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
