

PARKER, STAN Stan Parker passed away on October 1, 2010 at the age of 79 the son of Lewie and Phelia Parker. He graduated from Central Park High School and the University of Alabama where he was a member of KA fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War specializing in guided missiles. Stan's career started as an internal auditor for Ford Motor Company and regional manager for Reynold's Aluminum before returning to start his own building business and subdivision development. He was elected Builder of the Year by the Birmingham Association of Home Builders, Lifetime Spike for BAHB, Grand Award for Outstanding Achievement from National Association of Home Builders, was recognized by President Reagan as a home builder, President of the President's Council of the GBAHB, elected to the Greater Birmingham Housing Hall of Fame, Honor Rancher as a long time supporter of the Alabama Sheriff's Boys and Girls Club. He loved gardening and was a master gardener. He joined JRH Real Estate in 1981, managed the Crestline Office, Bessemer Office and Bessemer/ Hueytown office. As he had been a developer, builder, selling agent and broker, he understood all aspects of the business and he emphasized continuing education. He retired as manager in 2000, but remained an agent until 2005 and remained active in land development. He was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church and loved so many of his Christian brothers and sisters there. His Sunday school class and cancer support group were dear to his heart. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; sons, Matt (Lucy) and Drew (Staci) of Birmingham; daughter, Melissa Kantrow (Charlie) of New Orleans; sister, Judith of Birmingham and grandchildren, Sarah, Sims, Matthew, Owen, Christian, Maye Morgan, Andrew, Vivian, Caroline, Amelia and Eleanor. Pallbearers are Charlie Kantrow, Bobby Jones, Jerome Billings, Walter Mayer, James Mayer and Jack Hethcox. Honorary pallbearers are Gus Edgil, Skeet Inman, Harold Lochart, Jim Davis, Britt Winiford and K.O. Hand. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 4th with services at 11:00 a.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood.
