
Richard L. Jackson (Dick) of Birmingham, Alabama died on Saturday, March 19, 2011. He was 80 years old. He was a native of Lima, Ohio, and a graduate of Lima Central High School. He was also a graduate the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music in 1952, and a J.D. degree in 1957. He served two years active duty at Ft. McClellan and 28 years in the active reserves before retiring in 1980 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was employed with the Huntington National Bank in Ohio. He came to Birmingham in 1975 to join First National Bank (later AmSouth) until his retirement as Vice President and Trust Officer 1996.
Dick was member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, a deacon, and member of the sanctuary choir. He was a member of the Birmingham Bar Association and the past president of the Metropolitan Kiwanis Club of Birmingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Henry Jackson and Cleta North Jackson of Lima, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sadie (Gibson) Jackson, his son, Paul Jackson (Dottie) of Granville, Ohio, his daughters Janet Jackson Bishop (Ron), and Martha Jackson Mims (Michael) of Birmingham, his five grandchildren, Eddie Jackson (Lisa), Katie Beth Jackson, Christina Bishop, Kip Bishop, and Christopher Mims, and his two great-grandsons, John Paul Jones, Jr., and Benjamin Stanley Jackson.
A private graveside service will be held for the family in Ashland, Alabama with the memorial service to be held in the sanctuary of Mountain Brook Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mountain Brook Baptist Church (3631 Montevallo Road, Birmingham, AL 35213), or a favorite charity.
