He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mable Osborne McManus; son, Ricky McManus (Lori) of Homewood, Alabama; daughter, Wendy McManus Burke (Scott) of Palm City, Florida; five grandchildren, Abbey Inman, Dalton McManus, Hunter McManus, Justin Burke, and Caroline Burke; and one great grandson, Mikey Inman.
Born in South Carolina on October 20, 1941, Richard was the son of Henry and Genie McManus. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the Masons, Mr. McManus loved Homewood, gardening, and woodworking. He was an avid turkey hunter and served as an officer in his hunting club. He was a member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent and served as a salesman for Zep Manufacturing for 38 years until his retirement. Richard was also an avid runner and qualified for the Boston Marathon, ran in the New York Marathon, and ran numerous times in the Vulcan Runs.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation beginning at five o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 12th of April at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. The Memorial Service will commence at six o’clock in the evening at the funeral home. The Reverend Craig Smalley will officiate.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials honoring the life of Richard H. McManus may be directed to the Cathedral Church of the Advent located at 2017 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel located at 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209.
