Robert E. Burris Sr.

BURRIS, ROBERT Robert "Bob " Burris, age 83, of Mountain Brook, AL died on September 5, 2011. Mr. Burris was born in Elm Grove, West Virginia. He was district manager at Kopper's Company, Inc. for 43 years. A member of Canterbury United Methodist Church he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Habitat for Humanity. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II where he served on the U.S.S. Midway and was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Sutherland Burris; daughters, Karen Cunningham (Alan), Beth Bell (Walter)and Robert E, Burris, Jr.; grandchildren; Heather Tackett (Scott), Ashley Robertson (Jas), Justin Cunningham and Robbie O'Bannon (Hannah); great grandson, Luke Tackett; brother, Walter William Burris (Eleanor) of Triadelphia, WV; sisters in law, Becky Burris, Opal Dillon; brothers in law, Bill Watiers (Shirley); sisters in law, Joyce Sutherland (John), Romaine Fischer and Roberta Sutherland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the parlor of Canterbury United Methodist Church from 10 until 11. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 in the chapel. The family request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Burris' memory to, The Carpenter's Hands, c/o Canterbury United Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Rd, Mountain Brook, AL 35223 or Habitat for Humanity.
