

DREHER, SR., ROBERT EARL "BOB", age 84, of Birmingham, AL, was born in Tuscumbia, AL, on June 12, 1927 and went to be with his LORD and Savior on February 15, 2012. He grew up in Acipco, attended Phillips High School, and Auburn University (1949) earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. He loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Navy, being trained in electronics. He retired with 40 years of service from Bell Laboratories, Southern Bell, and South Central Bell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Jacob Dreher and Laura Launa Olive Dreher; and his two brothers, Carl J. Dreher and Norman Dreher. He is survived by his college sweetheart, Elizabeth "Betty” Robbins. They celebrated over 63 years of marriage and together they had 3 children and 9 grandchildren: son, Robert "Rob" Dreher, Jr. (Carolyn); son, Thomas E. Dreher; and daughter, Donna Dreher Allain (Michael); grandchildren: Daniel and Patrick Dreher, Anna Grace, Scottie, and Forrest Dreher, and Jonathan, David, Rachel, and Hannah Allain. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Betty Jo (Les) Longshore and Margean Cummings, and a host of nieces and nephews. Bob had a servant's heart. He never met a stranger and it brought him joy to help out those in need. He was a very loyal friend to many. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, hunting, auto repair, beekeeping, and woodworking, and most of all, time with his family and grandchildren. Bob was also an avid Auburn fan. Upon retiring in 1989, he stayed very active, serving God through his local churches and their various projects and missions. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by many! Burial will be held at Alabama National Cemetery on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service in celebration of Bob's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Birmingham on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Birmingham Missions Fund (2209 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35209) or your favorite charity.
