Robert William Klyce

Robert William Klyce of Mountain Brook passed away July 30, 2026. He was born October 29, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from John Carroll High School in 1963 and from the University of Alabama in 1968, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, social fraternity.

After graduation, Robert joined his father in the family business of Avis Rent-A-Car, where he rose in the ranks to help build the Avis name both locally and nationally. He eventually became President of Avis, Birmingham, and President and CEO of Car and Truck Rentals, Inc. In 2018, he was awarded Auto Rental News' "Annual Impact Award" for "his longtime service and dedication to the car rental industry." He chaired the Avis Licensee Association and the Avis Advertising and Policy Committee. He was a board member of the American Car Rental Association. As an avid supporter of the University of Alabama, Robert contributed Avis services and products making Avis the official rental car of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Robert was a member of the 117th Recon Tech Squadron of the Alabama Air National Guard, the Shades Valley Rotary Club, and the Country Club of Birmingham, where he enjoyed golf with The Duffers dog fight. He also enjoyed being a member of the Saint Andrew's Society of the Middle South.

Robert survives by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Cassels Klyce, his brother Peter Reece Klyce (Susan), his brothers-in-law Robert Cobb and William Henry Cassels (Rebecca) and sister-in-law, Mary Kay Klyce.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Martin Peter Klyce, Jr. and Eleanor Grace McGeever Klyce, his sisters Mary Klyce Cobb and Carolyn Klyce Robinson, his brothers John Martin Klyce and Michael Joseph Klyce (Judy).

Robert was a member of The Cathedral Church of the Advent. Services will be held at the church on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM., with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Rector’s Garden, The Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203, or the charity of your choice.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as the happiest, kindest, most generous man, always willing to offer a helping hand. His gregarious personality and legendary sense of humor will be missed by many.
