Robert Felton Mann
4.30.1931 - 1.20.2018
Robert Mann, a faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was called by Jesus to his heavenly home on January 20th, 2018.
Robert was born in Birmingham and raised in Homewood. He graduated from Phillips High School, The University of Alabama (Business Administration), and Auburn University (Civil Engineering) and was the rare person who was a graduate and fan of both schools. Between his degrees at Alabama and Auburn, he served as a commissioned first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Austria and France. After completing his engineering degree, he joined his father and siblings at Mann Brothers Building Co. Later in life, he became a commercial real estate appraiser with Pless Appraisal Group. He was also a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham.
More importantly, Robert came to faith in Christ at the age of 40. He was a member of the Homestead Sunday School class and served Briarwood Presbyterian Church as a deacon, an elder, a member of the Jethro group, and as the chairman of the World Missions Committee. Robert was a man with a servant's heart who actively shared his faith.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Earl Stephens Mann and Laura Moody Mann and his brother Earl Stephens Mann, Jr. Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane Hester Mann. He is also survived by his brother Richard Ajax Mann (Judy), sisters-in-law Mary Coleman Hester, Hortense Hester, and Connie Shepherd Mann; his children Hope Mann Schmidt (Allen), Lee Mann Porter (Bob), Robert Felton Mann, Jr. (Michele), and Elizabeth Mann Norgard (Stephen); twelve grandchildren Megan Schmidt Halderman (Brent), AJ Schmidt, Mallory Schmidt, Mollie Schmidt, Abby Porter, Joy Porter, Lauren Porter, Ellie Porter, John Porter, Robert Mann III, Sarah Mann, and Elizabeth Mann; and one great-grandson Forest Halderman. His grandchildren described him as a loving, patient, gentle, inquisitive, secure, joyful, thoughtful, and warm man.
