

Robert Toy McLaughlin age 75, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on December 19, 2014, following a long illness. He was born to Redford Toy & Evadene McLaughlin in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Bob was a 1962 graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi. Following his graduation, Bob was very active at The University of Southern Mississippi, where he served as President of the University Foundation. He also spent several years on the USM Foundation Board of Directors, including stints on the following committees: Executive, Finance, Investment, Nominating and Policies, Planning and Bylaws. He was an alumnus of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and a veteran of the United States Army. Bob was owner and president of Inverness Financial Group for 30 years and recently joined Ameriprise Financial. Bob was Past President of the Alabama Chapter of the International Association of Financial Planners. Among his many interests and accomplishments was fighting forest fires in Idaho. He also enjoyed painting, writing, collecting antique toys, and wood carving.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Christine Martin McLaughlin; children, Piper Pierce, Stacey Pierce-Nickle, Allison Martin, Ashley Cone; and his six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 23rd from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Birmingham, 2209 Lakeshore Drive, Homewood, Alabama 35209. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.
