

Sarah Patton Glover, 82, died after a short illness on December 13, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She was born on August 2, 1941, in Memphis Tennessee, the daughter of William Franklin Patton and Sarah Evelyn (Paslay) Patton.
Sarah graduated from Greenwood Highschool, Greenwood Mississippi in 1959. She entered the Baptist Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Memphis Tennessee and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1963. She then attended Delta Airline’s training facility as a Delta Flight Attendant and flew until she married in 1964. During her life, she had numerous nursing positions but was most proud of her participation in Obstetrics Research which led to the discovery that Rubella could be the cause of deafness when passed from mother to baby during pregnancy.
Sarah associated with many organizations including the Daughters of American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Jefferson County Medical Auxiliary and most importantly Shades Valley Presbyterian Church. She had many responsibilities in the church including Children Sunday School Teacher, President of ladies of the church and Wedding Coordinator. Sarah found great joy and pride in being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She cheered for the Auburn Tigers and was a great fan of the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter in law, Donna Glover. Sarah is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Dudley Glover, son John Dudley Glover Jr., two grandsons, Brooks Patton Glover and Jackson Barrett Glover, and daughter Helen Patton Skutack (Daniel). She is also survived by her brother Byron Patton (Kathy) and sister Lillian Baily (Ray).
Memorial and celebration of life will be held December 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Vestavia Hills, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Southminister Presbyterian Church.
