Savola Avonell Churchill Shaw Erhard of Pelham, Al passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Steele, Alabama on September 21, 1930, and spent her childhood in Margaret, Al raised by parents strong in their Christian belief. "Nell" graduated from St. Clair County High School at age 18, & moved to Birmingham directly thereafter. She was married to Morris Shaw in 1949, who she lost suddenly to death in 1967, raising three children on her own. She remained widowed until 1979, when she remarried to Lloyd E. Erhard & moved to Louisville, KY until his death in 1991, shortly thereafter moving back to Birmingham. She had a successful Sales career at Hackney Fence Corporation, Vanguard Fence Corporation & later worked for Coca Cola in Birmingham.
She was an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church, strong in her Christian faith, where she developed loving relationships with many. She loved freely, and was a fiercely independent Lady.
Her early activities included boating, camping & water skiing, then throughout her middle years with her 2nd husband, she was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing. She had a passion for missions, reading her Bible and her devotionals. She also loved playing Bunko with her Sunday School family.
She is survived by her three loving children, Sharon Regina Coleman of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, (spouse Harry), Marcelyn Kay Raley of Pelham, Alabama, (spouse Scott), & Morris "Jay" Shaw Jr. of
Greensboro, North Carolina, (spouse June).
She is pre-deceased in death by her stepson Michael Lloyd Erhard, and is survived by his spouse Carol Erhard, along with Julie Erhard Simons, (spouse Myron), Rodger Erhard, (spouse Mary Jo), who she all deeply loved as her own. Her grandchildren include Sherri Coleman Ausbun, (Daniel), Holly Coleman Cossiboom, (Chad), Marci Coleman Hare, (Rob), Ashley Raley Falls, (Noel), Colton Lloyd Shaw, (Amanda), Hunter Jay Shaw, (Monserrat), Logan Shaw, Kimberly Erhard Wolfe, (Mike), Jennifer Erhard, Dennis Erhard and Greg Erhard. Her great grandchildren total 18. Nell's legacy will be remembered as a Christian Matriarch strong in the belief of Jesus' Blood, that she passed down to three generations below her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel. A service in her honor will be Friday, December 9, 2022 beginning at 1:00 PM.
