Sherry Margaret Rains

Sherry Ward Rains was born July 6, 1935 in Randolph, Alabama, the oldest of three daughters, to Clifford Ward and Reba Narramore Ward. Sherry grew up in Centreville, Alabama, graduated from Bibb County High School and attended Auburn University. While working in Birmingham in 1956, Sherry met Lloyd George Rains on a blind date. They married on August 5, 1957 and were married until Lloyd’s death in 2000.

Sherry is survived by her son, Greg Rains (Jamie) and her daughter, Kim Hardwick (Charles); her grandchildren Andrew Lloyd Rains (Leta), Preston McDonald Rains (Fergie), Margaret Rains Busby (Drew) and Emily Hardwick Barnes (Ethan); her great grandaughter, Ila Glenn Rains and great grandson, Ellis Gregory Rains; her sisters Carol Ward Sailors and Evelyn Cathy Ward; and nieces and nephews.

Sherry has been a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church for 58 years. She previously was a member of McElwain Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and played the piano for Sunday School classes. She played the piano by ear, in spite of having hearing loss as an adult. Until her last years of life, she would sit down at the piano and play with no sheet music.

The family of Sherry Rains is deeply grateful to those that provided loving care to Sherry during her last years of life: Wanda Kidd, Cynthia Cook, Mattie Showers and Nancy Endress.

Burial will be private . Memorials may be made to Mountain Brook Baptist Church.
