

Shirley Ann Lewis passed away July 20, 2015. Shirley was born January 13, 1936 in Pleasureville, KY. She married Joe O. Lewis in 1959 and is survived by her husband of fifty-six years and her two sons, Paul Ollin Lewis of Storrs, CT and Page Benjamin Lewis of Newark, DE, four grandchildren - Autumn, Benjamin, Logan and Emma, and one niece, Kathleen Farrell of Kerrville, TX. She lived in Bagdad, KY in her early years and began her Christian pilgrimage with the people of the Bagdad Baptist Church. Her family moved to Shelbyville, KY where she graduated from Shelbyville High School. Shirley received her R.N. training at the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Louisville, KY, where she was employed after graduation. She later earned a B.S. degree from Nazareth College (now Spalding University) in Louisville and went on to do her Master's Degree in Nursing at the University of Kentucky. She taught on the faculties of Midway College, Midway, KY and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. She was well-known to a generation of Southern Seminary students as the campus nurse (1960-1965). Shirley was currently an active member and very involved with Mountain Brook Baptist Church (MBBC), and its programs. She was a member of both the Hope and the Friendship Sunday School Classes and was loved and respected by her many friends in the church. She was a member of the Mellow Brook Singers, the church's senior adult choir. She served as the calling secretary for the Second Monday Book Club of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Shirley especially loved her time with the toddlers of MBBC, for whom she had a lasting affection. She was a life member of the Women's Association of Georgetown College and the Faculty Women's Club of Samford University (now known as the Legacy League). She enjoyed her volunteer work for the Salvation Army and the Hoover Public Library Bookstore. She was a member of the Board of the Hoover Historical Society serving as the recording secretary. Shirley was predeceased by her father and mother (Jessie Gilmore and Sarah Martha [Washburn] Pigg), one older sister (Betsy Ross Pigg), and two brothers (Robert Nelson Pigg and George Franklin Pigg). A Memorial service for Shirley will be Thursday, July 23,2015 at 10:00 AM at Mountain Brook Baptist Church, a time of visitation following the service . A graveside service will be Friday, July 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, Ky.
