Stella Scott Schreiber passed onto eternal life on August 25, 2025. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Joseph Allen Schreiber. She is also survived by her children: son, Joseph Scott Schreiber, his wife Jolinda, grandsons Collin and Liam, and a granddaughter, due any day; son, William Lee Schreiber, and his wife Elizabeth; and daughter, Emily Schreiber Pendley, and her husband Robert. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Hope Scott and her sister and brother-in-law Robin and Sonny Angle. Stella is predeceased by her parents Stanley and Dorothy Scott.
Stella's immeasurable kindness filled every phase of her life from her years at Norfolk Academy and Vanderbilt University to decades raising her family in Birmingham. Stella was selflessly devoted to her husband and children while also pursuing other creative entrepreneurial outlets like owning a portrait photography studio and stationery company. From 2013 until her diagnosis, Stella worked as a pastoral care associate at the Cathedral Church of the Advent.
In 2015, Stella returned to graduate school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to obtain her degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. After graduating, Stella began a counseling ministry at the Advent, which included leading counseling groups for those navigating the challenges of earthly life. In her work and all of her relationships, Stella listened and empathized. Stella's caring spirit was further demonstrated through her volunteer work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, HIM Ministries, and many other philanthropies.
Stella's life was enriched by a love of learning and curiosity. Adventures with her family brought her profound joy, including hiking the Grand Canyon and the Santa Cruz Trek and fly fishing in Idaho. A highlight of Stella's last sixty-four years was creating memories at the 'Last Resort' on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, peaking with the joy of taking her grandsons out on her sailboat.
During her seventeen months living with pancreatic cancer, Stella was sustained by her faith and optimism. Stella's friends and family will miss her steady, kind, and non-judgmental presence. A Memorial Service will be held on September 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. A reception in Clingman Commons will follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Pastoral Care Department at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in memory of Stella Scott Schreiber.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care Stella received at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, particularly the compassion shown by Dr. Darryl Outlaw, Dr. Ramzi Mulki, and countless nurses.
