Stuart William Lindquist

Stuart William Lindquist, age 87, passed away at Brookwood Hospital December 16th surrounded by his adoring wife and children. He was best known as the general manager of several country clubs in the Birmingham area, including Riverchase CC, Vestavia CC, Green Valley CC, The Downtown Club, and Mountain Brook Swim and Tennis Club.

He was born in Worcester Massachusetts to Stuart Gustav and Ida Rajala Lindquist. He distinguished himself early by being the Massachusetts State Master Councilor of DeMolay. He served as an intelligence officer and photo interpreter during the Korean War. He earned a BS in Hotel Management at the University of Massachusetts where he was Student Class President for three years, and that was where he met and married his wife of 60 years, Audrey Gail Humphriss. He was General Manager for Sheraton Hotels for 17 years in 10 cities across the country.

He managed his first country club in Talladega, Alabama at Point Aquarius Country Club in 1974, which led to his 43 year country club management career in Birmingham, where he was known as a kind and gracious host who oversaw every detail.

He had been president of the Club Managers Association of Alabama, president of New Horizons at UAB, Best Dressed Man in St. Petersburg, Florida, and a lifetime Mason.

He was the finest gentleman, a loving husband and doting father devoted to his wife Audrey, sons Keith David Lindquist and Brett Cabot Lindquist and daughter Heidi Lindquist Smith. He is also survived by Brett’s wife Cindy Peal Lindquist and grandchildren Coleman Stuart Lindquist, Kendall Marie Lindquist, Carter Burns Lindquist, Stuart William Lindquist II, Brandon Christopher Smith and Audrey Katherine Smith .

There will be a Celebration of Stuart’s life at Ridout Funeral Home in Homewood at 1800 Oxmoor Road on Wednesday, December 20th at 4pm.
