Susan attended East Ridge High School in Chattanooga, TN from 1970-1974, which is where she met her husband of 47 years. They married in May of 1977 and lived in Chattanooga, Memphis, and Nashville before moving to Birmingham in 1986 to raise their family.
Susan was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church, volunteered for Encore Respite Ministries, and was once told that she needed to be placed on the payrolls at her children’s schools because she volunteered so much at them.
Susan was preceeded in death by her mother, Betty Catlett Harpe, and stepfather, Harry K. Harpe of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Lynn Cochran of Birmingham, Alabama, her children: Lindsay Cochran of Birmingham, Alabama and Andrew Cochran of Knoxville, Tennessee, her stepsister, Laura Franks (Don) of Mobelton, Georgia, her brothers-in-law: Walter Livingston Cochran III of Chattanoooga, Tennessee and Charles Lee Cochran of Collinsville, Alabama, and her nephew John Scott Ferguson (Annette) of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Susan was a loving mother and wife as well as a dear friend to many. She will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
A service of remembrance will be held in the chapel of Canterbury United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 11th, at 1:00 pm with visitation in the church parlor beginning at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Encore Respite Ministry, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice .
