

Mrs. Caldwell was born in Birmingham, and apart from 10 years in Baton Rouge, LA, she lived her life in Birmingham. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Randolph Macon Women’s College. As the mother of five, she was an extraordinary homemaker who placed her family ahead of all else. A lifelong learner and a passionate reader, she cherished her many years of participation with The Sewing Club and New Era Study Club. She was interested in helping young women and families and enjoyed her associations with The Junior League, Linly Heflin and Gateway. She deeply valued her friendships, and she took pleasure in giving of herself to make things better for those around her.
Mrs. Caldwell was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (“Buck”) Caldwell, Jr., her son, Robert Thomas Brooke ll, her twin sister, Cecile, her brothers, Alvin Vogtle, Jr. and Billy Pat Vogtle; and is survived by a brother, Jesse Vogtle; four children, Gayle Brooke Brown, Dixon Brooke, Jr., Sybil Brooke Sylvester and Will Brooke; four granddaughters, eight grandsons; seven great granddaughters and eight great grandsons; and with her 27 year marriage to Buck Caldwell, his four children, Catherine Caldwell Cabaniss, Frances Caldwell Bennett, Jean Foster Caldwell and Charles Caldwell, lll; 4 granddaughters; five great granddaughters and three great grandsons.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 21 at 11 am at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Visitation with family will precede the service at the church in Graham Hall starting at 10 am.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Caldwell’s devoted caregivers, Ida Austin, Mildred Cash, Josephine Greshem, Cassandra Jackson, Kristi Mcadory, Joyce Monroe and LaMirian Webb.
