

A graduate of The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and Sewanee: The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He served in the United States Air Force as a first lieutenant where he participated in classified reconnaissance flight operations in the far east.
Mr Tucker was a retired executive vice president of Regions Financial/AmSouth where he previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of AmSouth"s leasing and finance subsidiary. He was cofounder of the Garland Govan Fund named in honor of Peter and Katie Garland, Sewanee, Tennessee, and his uncle, the historian Thomas Payne Govan originally from Atlanta. The fund has provided financial support to over fifty Sewanee students from the rural counties surrounding Sewanee.
He was a member of St.Luke's Episcopal Church, Mt. Brook, Alabama. He was a board member of the Birmingham Broadway Series where he served a term as its president. An ardent outdoorsman. Mr. Tucker served terms as President of the Birmingham;Canoe Club and the Alabama Trail Riding Association as well as a member of the Cahaba River Society Board of Directors. A white water enthusiast, he paddled many of the south's challenging rivers and streams. Owner of a horse breeding farm, he participated in fifty mile endurance cross country races on horseback through many of the southeast's wilderness areas. He led lengthy back pack trips in California's High Sierra Mountain range and hiked in the Wyoming Wind River Range. He reached the summits of Mt Fugi in Japan and Callie Patar in Nepal He made the Mt. Everest base camp trek. He also for years led groups on frequent day hikes in Alabama's Sipsey wilderness. A serious photographer, Mr. Tucker secured special permission from the French Minister of Culture to photograph the stained glass in major French cathedrals. He spent a total of three months over three years in Europe photographing stained class windows in France as well as Germany and Italy.
Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters: Elizabeth Harris Tucker Conn and Katherine Eaton Tucker Bunnel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Guerard Tucker, and by many nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will be having a private service at a later date.
