Una W. Coleman

UNA CONNORS COLEMAN, age 90, born May 18, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama Una is the daughter of Una and George Washington Connors, Jr. and granddaughter of Lillian Lochrane and George Washington Connors, founder of Connors Steel Company in Birmingham. She graduated from Lakeview Elementary, was in the second graduating class from Brooke Hill School (now The Altamont School) and graduated from Goucher College in Maryland in 1949. She was a past president of the Linly Heflin Unit and held many offices during her 60 plus years in the Junior League of Birmingham. She was a member of the Highland Book Club, a member of The Canterbury Club, The Mountain Brook Garden Club, the Music and Art Club, the Progress Study Croup and The Country Club of Birmingham. She was an active member of Independent Presbyterian Church since birth. Her roles included serving as a Deacon, member of The Guild, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and active member in the STAIR program. She lately was involved with the prayer shawl knitting group and the senior men's lunch club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Coleman, Sr., daughter Una Connors (Connie) Coleman, brother George Washington Connors III and sister Jeanne Sanson Hill. She is survived by her sister Josephine Connors James of S.C., daughter Lochrane Coleman Smith (Mell), Thomas Coleman, Jr. (Brooke), grandchildren Lochrane Connors Smith, Thomas Coleman III, Elizabeth Norris Coleman and John Wheeler Coleman. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Special thanks are given to caregivers Henrietta Underwood, De'Quastaye Oliver, Pam Martinez, Arnell Davis, Samantha Allen and St. Martin's in the Pines. There will be a private family graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, November 17 at 11:00 at Independent Presbyterian Church with a reception following.
