
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Peggy K. Zanaty, his beloved daughter, Kimberley Zanaty Reeves, and her husband, Randy, of Homewood and grandson, Chuck Reeves, of Sorrento, Florida. He is also survived by his brothers Charles N. Zanaty, Sr. and Edward S. Zanaty, Sr., both of Homewood, brother-in-law Bobby Karr of Double Springs and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family members.
Wadell is a graduate of John Carroll High School and a graduate of The University of Alabama where he attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was a member of The Million Dollar Band, ROTC, and president of his social fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi. Wadell achieved his Juris Doctorate Degree from the Birmingham School of Law. He was a member of the Alabama State Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. Following law school, Wadell served as a Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge for many years before his retirement from the bench.
Wadell served on Active Duty with the United States Air Force and retired from the Air Force Reserves at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was an avid ham radio operator under the callsign K4FHL and enjoyed serving the community in that capacity when other modes of communication were not available.
Graveside services will commence at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, the 29th of February, and will include military honors at Elmwood Cemetery.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or in support of a charity of your choosing.
