Walter W. Kennedy, Jr., passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter W. Kennedy and Myra Belle Pope Kennedy; his wife of 45 years, Patricia Williams Kennedy; his son Miller Williams Kennedy; and his second wife, Marjorie Sherer Kennedy.
Walter grew up in Montgomery, AL, where he earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of the South at Sewanee, and moved to Birmingham after seeing combat and receiving two Purple Hearts as a Marine lieutenant in the Korean War. He had a long career as a mortgage banker and real estate appraiser and was a long time member of the Birmingham Country Club where he practiced his love of golf in the Two Bit Dogfight. Walter was also president of the Alabama Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, president of the Mortgage Bankers Association and the Visiting Nurses Association, chairman of the Vulcan District Boy Scout Council and a member of St. Peter's Anglican Church.
He is survived by his children Walter W. Kennedy, III (Melissa), Patricia Kennedy Abele, stepsons Danny Sherer and Steve Sherer; sisters, Ann Kennedy Burchenal, and Carol Kennedy Johnston (Watkins) and grandchildren Walter W. Kennedy IV (Jodie), Robert Williams Abele, Manning Pollard Abele, Patrick Woodson Abele, and Kaycee A. Cornelius.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church or the University of the South.
