Wiley Franklin [Jack] Davis was born November 11, 1923 and died peacefully on March 1, 2014 at The Cottages, St. Martins in the Pines. A native of Walker County he lived in Birmingham most of his ninety years. He is survived by daughter, V. Carolyn Davis of Birmingham, son, Jonathan F. Davis of Woodstock, Georgia, and grandsons, Robert Andrew Davis and Jonathan Walrond Davis and several nieces and nephews. Following his retirement from Birmingham Manufacturing Company, his life focused around his family, his involvement at Canterbury United Methodist Church and his volunteer days at Trinity Medical Center.
Born on Veteran’s Day he would claim that the Veteran’s Day parades were in his honor. He was proud of his service as a bombardier in the 20th Army air force during WWII in the Pacific Theater and until recently enjoyed attending reunions with his flight crew. A highlight in the past decade was being able to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D. C. to visit the WWII monument.
The family will receive visitors in the church parlor on Thursday, March 6, 2014 beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of his life following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Canterbury United Methodist Church.
