Mrs. Mason, I just found out today about your husband's death.  I just wanted you to know that he had serviced the microscope where I work for the past 14 years.  He always talked about you in such a way that I know he loved you so much.  He would tell me about yall fly fishing and the latest restaurant yall had tried.  I just want you to know that in those few meetings with him over the years I found him to be genuine and kind and was great at what he did.  I hope you are doing ok and just wanted you to know that I will miss his yearly visits to the office. I just found out about Bill's passing. It will be very sad to sit at the microscope now, knowing that Bill has left us too soon.  He was always helpful and so personable over the 25+ years I knew him. May your memories surround you.

He was the one who helped me to set up the microscope system when I first came here, and he was the one who took care of our microscopes once they were in place. Bill Mason was a wonderful friend of mine over the last two decades and his untimely death is a great loss to me, his other friends and colleagues, his family and especially his soul mate and wife, Jane.  Bill was very personable, energetic and supportive and was always described as a "great guy."  He had a huge range of knowledge and we would spend hours discussing microscopes, rifle scopes, rifles, hunting and fishing, UAB, politics and life in general.  We spent many great hours together in the woods, on the road, in my laboratory, and planning our next trip.  He truly was unique and can never be replaced.

Bill was always great to work with.  I enjoyed catching up with him whenever our paths crossed - whether discussing science, his most recent hunting excursion or just life in general.
