William "Billy" Mudd Hiden

William "Billy" Mudd Hiden passed away on August 20, 2026 at home surrounded by family. Billy was the loving husband of Patricia Lowery Hiden and son of Barrow Gore Ryding and Samuel Earle Hiden. He was a devoted brother, father, and grandfather, survived by his brother, Samuel Earle Hiden, Jr. (Nancy) of Andalusia, AL, and sister, Katherine Hiden Kettig (John) of Birmingham, AL, as well as his children, William "Billy" Mudd Hiden, Jr. (Kate) of Birmingham, AL, and Taylor Hiden Zoepfl (Eric) of Nashville, TN. He leaves behind his three grandchildren, Meyer Anne Hiden, William "Will" Mudd Hiden, III, and Henry Joseph Zoepfl, and his beloved dog Murphy.

Billy valued education throughout his life. He graduated from Indian Springs School, earned a BS in Economics from Washington and Lee University and an MBA from the University of Alabama, and later completed the IMCA Certified Investment Management Analyst program at Wharton. He worked 47 years at the same firm, now Morgan Stanley, serving as Managing Director, Family Wealth Director, and Financial Advisor. He was also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, and was named a Barron's Top 1200 Advisor and a Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisor for multiple years.

Billy was active in his faith as a parishioner at St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church, playing a critical role in the church's endowment, and previously serving on the Capital Campaign Committee, multiple terms on the vestry, and as Sr. Warden. He was also a devoted member of the St. Mary's Cursillo community and supported Richard Simmons' Center for Executive Leadership.

Billy was a valued friend and community member. He belonged to Mountain Brook Club, the Redstone Club, and the Beaux Arts Krewe, and in earlier years played golf with The Strokers at Mountain Brook Club. He formerly served on the board at Pumpkin Hollow Lake in Sterrett, AL, and as President of the Birmingham Golf Association. He loved the outdoors, spending much time at the lake with family, and enjoyed Highlands, NC, and Jackson Hole, WY. He loved hunting with his son and friends, and was involved in several hunting clubs and leases over the years.

Above all, Billy was beloved for the trust he inspired, the warmth he brought to every relationship, and the quiet courage he showed throughout his life. He will be remembered with great affection and respect.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at Mountain Brook Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of Billy's passions: St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands or The Center for Executive Leadership.
