Dr. Antje Neubert, D.V.M., 69, of Crystal River passed away peacefully Sunday, October 19, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. Dr. Antje was born September 11, 1945 to Erich W. & Margot Neubert in Witzenhausen, Germany. After graduating from Huntsville High School in Alabama, she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University, where she was 1 of 3 women to graduate as a veterinarian from the class of 1970; a true pioneer. Go War Eagles! She opened Crystal River Animal Hospital in October 1976 and was still practicing at the time of her death. Her world was complete with all of her 4 legged patients. While her animals (and ours) had her complete devotion, she was also an avid gardener with a yard that was immaculate. When not digging in the dirt, she enjoyed cooking; at her best when sharing with friends and family. Being on the water brought great joy and many memories; times spent out in nature gave her much happiness and relaxation. She will be missed by many as a faithful friend, always there for us with support and love, and usually a good laugh or joke. A rock for many, she showed us her strengths of being independent, speaking her mind, but also lived by example being generous and accepting. She lived a full life and loved deeply. She is preceded in death by her father, Erich W. Neubert. She is survived by her mother, Margot Neubert, Huntsville, Al; her brothers Rolf Neubert, Scottsboro, Al and Dirk Neubert, Crystal River, Fl; nephew Shawn Neubert and great-nephew Braylan, Shallotte, NC; companion Rex Durbin of Crystal River and sidekick Sharon Worthington, of Homosassa. In lieu of flowers, to honor Dr. Antje, please take the time to give an extra smile when you think of it or do a little something extra for someone else. And, of course, and extra pat on the head for all those wonderful pets and animals that share our world. Let us continue to share her passion. Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa. www.wilderfuneral.com
