

Betty Ruth Kinnett, 85, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Wed., Sept. 17, 2025 at her home. A native of Barbourville, KY, she was born March 14, 1940 to Ike and Pansy (Bond) Shelton, one of nine children. Betty moved to Homosassa in 2005 from Indiana, along with her late husband of 32 years, SH1 Earl T. “Tucker” Kinnett, USN (RET), who passed on Wed., April 3, 2019. Mrs. Kinnett was a former administrative and accounting assistant for Miller Oil Company in Indiana, and was a member and Past President of the Homemaker’s Club in Aurora, IN. Betty loved bowling and was a league bowler for many years. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and often enjoyed associating with her friends as a member of the Lunch Bunch. A Southern Baptist by faith, Betty was a member of Homosassa Church of God. She loved crafting, especially Christmas decorations, as Christmas was her favorite holiday. Her home at Christmas always reflected her talented nature in arts and crafts. Betty also loved planting and arranging flowers, as well as shopping for clothes. In addition to her husband and her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a granddaughter-in-law, Victoria Hurst, and seven of her siblings: Fred, Ruby, Marvin, Leo, Alta, Paul and Bonnie. Mrs. Kinnett is survived by her two sons; Greg Hurst of Dillsboro, IN and James Hurst, Homosassa, FL; four grandchildren: Ashley Sprayberry (husband Nick), Villa Rica, GA; Jessie Hurst (wife Candace), Cincinnati, OH; Jacob Hurst, Villa Rica, GA and CW2 Zachary Hurst, currently serving with Georgia National Guard (wife Jenny), Dothan, AL; twelve great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Kailey, Braxton, Noah, Charlotte, Carter, Katherine, Dexter, Ricky, Reagan and Ryland; as well as one brother, B.P. Shelton, Michigan and one sister-in-law, Irma Shelton, Cincinnati, OH. Family and friends will gather at Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home in Homosassa to celebrate Betty’s life on Sat., June 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
