
Daniel Herbert Airey, 72, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Sun., Dec. 6, 2015 at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, FL. A native of Baltimore, MD, he was born Oct. 15, 1943 to Herbert and Eleanor (Siejack) Airey. Mr. Airey proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis period. Upon his completion of basic training at Great Lakes, IL, he served aboard the USS Cony (DD-508) during the crisis. His working life entailed a long career as a driver with Esso Oil Company, which became Exxon. Daniel moved to Homosassa 15 years ago from his native Baltimore and was a parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River, FL. He was also a past member of the Elks Lodge in Crisfield, MD and a longtime member of West Citrus Elks Lodge #2693, Homosassa, where he was especially devoted to serving meals to local Cub Scouts regularly. Mr. Airey is survived by siblings Bernadette Bellew, Haines City, FL; Edward Airey, Fishing Creek, MD and Linda Cieslak, Perry Hall, MD; nephew Daniel J. Ashe (wife Ann), Sudlersville, MD; niece Maryann Hiteshew (husband William D. III), Bel Air, MD, and other nieces and nephews Susan, Robert, Christy, Edward, Jennifer, Joseph, Jessica and Jacquelin, as well as his loving companion of five years, Dolores Rogers, of Homosassa. A Memorial Celebration of Life will take place from the West Citrus Elks Lodge, Homosassa, Florida on Thurs., Dec. 10, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 A.M. on Fri., Dec. 18, 2015 from St. Clements Catholic Church, Rosedale, MD with interment following at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Dundalk, MD.
