David Alan Cope, 58, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Fri., Nov. 3, 2023 at his home. A native of Bloomington, IL, but growing up in St. Petersburg, FL, he was born June 27, 1965 to William and Carol (Gainer) Cope, one of five children. David’s working life held several facets, including service station technician in Pinellas County and a Capitol One Call Center Representative in Tampa, where he was a devoted volunteer and mentor for Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa. He was very talented and proficient at home improvement projects, a passion that he pursued during the last 19 years as a “stay at home Dad”, not only in his own homes, but at the homes of friends and family, as he really enjoyed helping others. David had lived in Homosassa for the past two and a half years, coming here from Cincinnati, OH. David, along with his loving wife Sherri, also held past residence in Westfield, IN, where he volunteered as baseball coach for his son Zachary’s team for many years, then transitioning into a volunteer position as Commissioner of Westfield Baseball. David was an avid sports memorabilia collector. The collecting started after he began spending a lot of time at spring training in St. Petersburg getting autographs. He really liked taking a team signed ball or bat and researching and trying to figure out all the signatures. David’s favorite color was blue and he loved Sherri’s lasagna, chili, and chicken cooked in any fashion; one of his favorite restaurants being YaYa’s Flame Broiled Chicken. The essence of David's very life revolved around his love for his wife Sherri and their only child Zachary. David will always be remembered for his kind and generous nature and his constant willingness to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. David will always be very missed by all who knew him. David is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Sherri Lynn Cope of Homosassa; his son, Zachary Cope, also of Homosassa; his father William Cope (wife Nancy Pici-Cope), Pinellas Park, FL and mother Carol Cope, Clearwater, FL; siblings Dennis Cope (wife Paula), St. Petersburg, FL; Denise Cope, Clearwater, FL; Teresa Cope, Homosassa, FL and Chris Cope, Coralville, IA; nieces and nephews Dennis, Jr., Ashley, Thomas, Lindsay, Gabi, Seth, Chris, Jr. and Austin; great nephew Silas and his mother-in-law Linda Brauer of Brooksville, FL.
