Eugene Victor Hermanski

Born in Pittsfield, MA to Pauline and Stephen Hermanski and relocated to Newark, NJ at an early age. He lived in Homosassa for 12 years relocating from Middlesex, NJ.

Mr. Hermanski began his professional baseball career in 1939 with Minor League clubs from Federalsburg, MD; Kinston, NC; Olean, NY and Durham, NC. In 1943 he was promoted to the Brooklyn Dodgers. He joined the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II and became a helicopter pilot while stationed at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY.

At the end of World War II, he rejoined the Dodgers where he played outfield. He played in the 1947 and 1949 World Series. In 1951, he was traded to the Chicago Clubs and ultimately retired in 1955. After playing ball he was in Sales selling construction equipment until 1985.

Relocated to Sugarmill Woods and was a member of Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club, enjoyed watching Tampa Bay Devil Rays play at Tropicana Field.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol. He is also survived by his brother Roman Hermanski and wife Jane of NJ, his niece Carol of PA and nephew Bruce of NJ. His daughter, Lynda Sands preceded him in death in 1985.

A memorial service will be held 2 p. m., Monday, September 20, 2010 at Wilder Funeral Home.
