As a professor at Saint Leo University for 33 years, Dr Dooris taught biology courses, advised students, served on the Board of Trustees and consulted on environmental matters. Retiring in 2005, Dr Dooris was engaged in environmental consulting with his wife, Dr Patricia Dooris.
He was a US Coast Guard Auxiliarist for 27 years during which he conducted safety patrols on the Homosassa River, taught safe boating classes to the public and seamanship classes to Auxiliary members and taught Officer Trainees at the US Coast Guard Academy. Dr Dooris also volunteered with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Crime Watch program for over 10 years.
Beloved by many, he will be profoundly missed.
