George Henry "Bud" Niehaus

George Henry “Bud” Niehaus, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, relative and friend, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026 in Homosassa, Florida. He was 98 years old.

Born on August 2, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to George Peter Niehaus and Ethel Niehaus, George grew up in the vibrant city of St. Louis. He graduated from Cleveland High School in St. Louis and went on to lead a remarkable life filled with dedication to his family, career, and passions.

George proudly served his country during World War II as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. Following his Army service, he continued his commitment to the military by serving six years as a Navy Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class Petty Officer (AD-6489-88-USNR-Sq). His time in the Armed Forces exemplified his steadfast sense of duty and patriotism.

A Free and Accepted Mason, George was a faithful 66 year member of Meridian No. 2 Masonic Lodge of St. Louis.

After his military service, George embarked on a successful career in real estate and later as a Contract Specialist for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. His professional endeavors reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to helping others secure homes and build communities.

George was an avid sports enthusiast with a lifelong passion for golf. He shared this love with his nephews Kenny and Anthony Gaal by teaching them how to play the game he cherished so deeply. A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, George never missed a game and took immense joy in cheering for his hometown team. In addition to golf and baseball, he enjoyed boating and bowling; activities that brought him happiness and countless memories with loved ones.

Family was at the heart of George’s life. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Michele “Shelley” Chambers Niehaus; daughter Sandy Bushey (husband Rick); grandsons Matt Bushey and Jake Niehaus (wife Sierra); great-grandson Marlin Bushey; mother-in-law Evelyn Chambers; sister-in-law Mary Gaal; sister-in-law Kim Pauley; nephews Kenneth Gaal (wife Samantha) and Anthony Gaal (wife Rosie); great nephew Bentley Gaal and many other relatives and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George Peter and Ethel Niehaus; son George Gary Niehaus; daughter-in-law Lisa Niehaus; grandson Kyle Niehaus and brother-in-law John Pauley, as well as other cherished family members who held special places in his heart.

George’s legacy is one of love, loyalty and devotion; to his family, friends, country and passions. His memory will live on through those who knew him best and loved him most.

May George Henry “Bud” Niehaus rest in eternal peace. His memory will forever bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to share in his extraordinary life.

Military Honors Service at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida will be finalized and announced soon. Services entrusted to Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida.
