Helen F. Cheek, 89, of Homosassa, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Sunflower Springs Assisted Living in Homosassa. A native of Franklin, Indiana, she was born July 27, 1930 to Elmer and Gladys (Mullikin) Goodwin and married John B. Cheek on November 30, 1946, with whom she had nearly 68 years of marriage until his passing on September 14, 2014. Their marriage was blessed with four children: The Late Carol Joye Cheek, Sandra Lynn Suriano, Beverly Sue Vollstedt (husband Thomas) and Ronald Keith Cheek (wife Dawn), all of Homosassa, Florida; as well as eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Helen worked for ten years as a cook for Johnson Memorial Hospital in her native Franklin, Indiana. She also worked for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Indianapolis, Indiana; Sears and Roebuck in Greenwood, Indiana and Franklin Bank and Trust before moving to Homosassa in 1981. Then Helen worked for the Homosassa Wildlife Park before it became Ellie Schiller State Wildlife Park; she sold real estate, and finally worked as a laundry employee for Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River for five years before fully retiring. Helen enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. Her perfect day consisted of quietly sitting and reading a good book. Helen will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Friends and family will be received on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Wilder Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon.
