

John Joseph Raymond, 77, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Mon., July 27, 2026 at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL. A native of West Branch, MI, he was born Nov. 1, 1948 to Laverne “Jiggs” and Geraldine “Gerry” (Brenner) Raymond, one of five children. John served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971, attending United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) in Fort Belvoir, VA then the United States Military Academy at West Point. John’s professional occupation was in wholesale lumber, retiring as a Vice President. Purchasing his home in Homosassa with his beloved wife Bea in 2009, John lived here four months out of the year while Bea was still working; then they moved to Homosassa permanently in 2012 from Perry Michigan, where he and Bea had lived for over 20 years. A Roman Catholic by faith, he was a member and past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Morrice, MI, then became a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa. John pursued his love for the game of golf the majority of his adult life. He also was passionate about working and beautifying his yard and often enjoyed a good game of euchre with his family and friends. John was a sports enthusiast, especially following Michigan State University basketball and football, as well as watching the PGA Tour.
Whenever he visited Michigan, he would often visit first his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Rita Hounsell, as they were the best of friends.
John also enjoyed great times visiting his son Michael and his family in Georgia. His grandchildren were an important part of his life; while visiting in Georgia, he loved watching Stella, Rett and Wills playing their sports.
John loved his visit with his son Rodney and his wife, Janelle in California and was looking forward to seeing them in the future. He was very proud of his daughter, Bridget, who is a high school teacher, and enjoyed their conversations regarding her restoration of antique travel trailers. John and his daughter Shannon were like best friends and he enjoyed sitting down with her and conversing about her art work.
John was especially proud of his grandson Paul for joining the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Raymond was preceded in death by a brother, Michael “Mickey” Raymond, and brother-in-law Ralph Mier.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Beatrice M. “Bea” Raymond; sons Rodney Wilson and his wife Janelle, Michael “Ray” Raymond and his wife Mandee; daughters Shannon Wilson and Bridget Bowers and her husband Scott; grandchildren PFC Paul Watkoski and his wife Jennifer, U.S. Army; Kyle Kulanda and his wife Gayane, Melanie Kulanda; Briana Decambra, Carrie, Nathan and Grason Abbey; Stella, Everett “ Rett” and William “Wills” Raymond; Jeydon and Nikhol Hughes; Wini and Mira Wilson; great grandchildren Killian Decambra, Sophia Kulanda and Baby Boy Kulanda, due in Jan. 2027; sister Sally Mier; brother Timothy “Tim” Raymond (wife Ann) and sister Amy Lewis.
A Mass will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Traverse City, Michigan with visitation at 10 a.m., Mass at 11 am, followed by a luncheon in the Church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider making a donation to Tunnel to Towers or St Jude Children's Hospital.
