Linda Humphrey (Beckerman), age 83, died of complications arising from illness on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Linda was born on July 20, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York to parents Solomon and Rebecca Zlatkiss. Following Solomon’s passing in 1945, Rebecca was married to Murray Beckerman and Linda legally became his daughter, and a sister to Marianne and Joel. Linda and Donald Dodge Humphrey were happily wed on June 5th, 1960 and raised three children. Linda moved from Medford, New York to Homosassa, Florida with her husband Donald in 1994, following their retirement, where they lived out the remainder of their lives together.
Linda is survived by daughter Laura Hauth and husband William, son William Humphrey and wife Deborah, and son Steven. She was a beloved grandmother to Thomas, William and wife Jaclyn, and Patrick Hauth; Lisa Humphrey and fiancé Josiah Dillon, and James Humphrey; and a beloved sister and aunt. She was also a good and loyal friend to many throughout her life. While Donald worked days, Linda worked nights for many years for the Internal Revenue Service in Holtsville, New York as a tax examiner and issue resolution specialist, to also help support all her growing children’s needs.
Linda was a wonderful and affectionate mother and grandmother. She enjoyed every moment spent with her children and grandchildren from the day they were born. She was known for her friendliness, caring, generosity, sweet smile, and desire to help whenever she could. Linda was a highly sensitive and compassionate woman who often put the needs of others before herself and was well loved by all who knew her. During her life, Linda volunteered extensive time to her family’s parish, St. Mark’s in Medford, and towards Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League, school trips, and loved to participate in activities with her children. As Linda’s family grew, she thoroughly enjoyed being part of all her grandchildren’s milestones and lives.
While living in New York, Linda favored and greatly enjoyed following the New York Giants with Donald, her family and friends. Also during her entire adult life, she enjoyed socializing and playing cards and games, reading books, tending her plants, crocheting, watching movies, shopping and visiting local scenery. She was also a very gifted artist who created beautiful sketches and watercolor paintings and was a member of the Citrus County Art League in Florida.
We will always remember Linda for her love and devotion to her husband and her family. She and Donald were married for 62 years, separated for 19 weeks after Donald’s passing, and then rejoined again under Heaven’s roof. Their two loving hearts became as one again; they are now their family’s guardian angels. Linda left a very special imprint on everyone who knew her, which we can now carry forward.
