

Marguerite Maurine Doane Betzer passed away Monday, August 9th, 2010. She was born June 28, 1921, daughter of Charles Homer Doane and Gladys Erma Miller Doane on a farm in Cisco, Illinois. She graduated from Cerro Gordo Highschool. She attended Brown’s Business College in Decatur, IL and became a stenographer for Staley Manufacturing Company. She married Gilbert Wayne Betzer, son of L. E. Betzer of Argenta, IL. January 12, 1941 and lived on the Betzer Farm, 4 1/2 miles south of Argenta, IL. Together they owned and managed 2 farms in Argenta, IL and Pocohontas, IA, and a TrueValue Hardware Store in Cerro Gordo, IL. They were members of the Woodland Chapel Presbyterian Church of Decatur.
In 1977, they retired and moved to Homosassa, FL where they resided in Sugar Mill Woods. After the death of her husband in 2000, she moved to Crystal River Village and finally Sunflower Springs in Homosassa, FL. where she lived the remainder of her life.
Marguerite was a devoted member of her church, The First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, FL. She was a member of the Women’s Division of Global Ministries and the United Methodist Women. Her faith was strong and carried her to a better life.
With her husband, she enjoyed boating, fishing and golf. Her talent was in painting and writing poetry and prided herself in her efficiency at keeping accurate records.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Homer Doane and Gladys Miller Doane, her husband, Gilbert Wayne Betzer, and a younger brother, Maurice H. Doane of Decatur, IL.
She is survived by an older brother, Edwin Homer Doane and wife, Lelia Handley Doane of Decatur, IL, 2 nieces; Patricia Doane Wheat and Deborah Doane of Springfield, IL, 2 great nieces, one of Springfield, IL and one of Raleigh, N. C. and 2 great nephews, both of Springfield, IL.
The celebration memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Mark Whittaker at The First United Methodist Church, 8831 Bradshaw St., Homosassa, FL. on Tuesday, August 17th, 2:00 pm. Committal services will follow at Fountains Memorial Park next to her husband of 61 years.
