Melvin J. Lederman, 92, of Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, FL, passed quietly to be with the Lord and his beloved wife “Rusty” on Tues., May 8, 2018 at Cornerstone Hospice House in Clermont, FL. His beloved wife of 59 years, Helen C. “Rusty” Lederman, preceded him on Nov. 19, 2011. Survivors include his two children Susan M. McInnis and her husband John, Homosassa, FL and Marc D. Lederman, and his wife Kathie, Sterling, VA; grandchildren Amy, Kerry, Anne, Seth, Courtney, Barrett and Patrick and great-grandchildren Avery, Sullivan, Sophie, Findlay, Daniel, Jack, Sarah, Holden and Clark. In addition to his wife and his parents, Harry and Anna (Waldman) Lederman, Melvin was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Rattet and his brother, Edwin Lederman. Mr. Lederman served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Navy during WWII as a member of the 13th Naval Construction Battalion (SEABEES) and as a Machinist Mate Third Class Petty Officer in the Pacific Theater, mustering out in 1946. Mel earned his Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1951 and embarked upon a long, storied career with General Electric, serving in the Aircraft Engine Division in the United States and abroad, designing and selling jet fighter aircraft engines for the U.S. Air Force, the U. S. Navy, the Royal Australian Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force. He retired in 1987 and moved to Cape Cod, MA where he remained in a consulting capacity for the Aircraft Engine Division until he moved to Sugarmill Woods in 1989. A celebration of Melvin’s life will take place on Mon., May 14, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa. Private interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL with military honors rendered by the United States Navy.
