Robert Conley Lewis

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Robert lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a love for the outdoors. He attended the University of North Alabama, where he played football as an offensive tackle and was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI). He went on to become a successful entrepreneur and the owner of Gulfstream Communications, a telecommunications company he built and later sold before enjoying a well-earned retirement.

Robert found his greatest joy on the water. Whether fishing, boating, or scalloping along Florida’s Gulf Coast, he was happiest outdoors. Among the traditions he treasured most was an annual Super Bowl camping trip, where old friends gathered year after year to enjoy the outdoors, share stories, and renew friendships that had endured across the decades. His FIJI brotherhood remained an important part of his life, as did the many friendships he formed and maintained throughout the years.

Robert will be remembered for his warm smile, generous heart, steadfast loyalty, and the genuine kindness he extended to family and friends alike.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Shannon Lewis (Cam); his cherished grandson, Ronan Lewis; his sisters, Barbara Lewis and Linda Legere (Ron); his brother, Thomas Lewis (Wellesley); his nephew, Jason Lewis; his nieces, Claire and Charlotte; his nephew, Landon; along with his extended family and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Edmund Lewis, Jr. and Betty Lou Kendrick.

Robert’s family will honor his life with the burial of his cremated remains at a later date. Details regarding the service will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who knew Robert honor his memory in the ways he would have appreciated most: spend time with the people you love, enjoy the outdoors or a day on the water, share stories and laughter with good friends, and extend a helping hand to someone in need.
