

Rodney Earl Bloomer, 51, of Citrus Springs, FL, went to be with the Lord on Fri., May 27, 2022 at Advent Health Hospital in Ocala, FL. A native of Gallipolis, OH, he was born Sept. 15, 1970. A resident of Citrus County most of his life, he began serving his community at the age of 16 as a volunteer firefighter. He went on to the Florida State Fire College and became Fire Chief of the Hernando Volunteer Fire Dept., and also became the youngest State Deputy Fire Marshall at the age of 19. In his capacity in serving his community in this manner, Rodney would many times be seen with his faithful companion Mya, Florida State arson dog, by his side. Rodney then began a long career with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Dept., advancing to the rank of Corporal. The department then sent him to the Southern Police Institute at University of Louisville, where he attained Kentucky Colonel status, and which also was prerequisite to attaining the rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Bloomer also served the Citrus County Sheriff’s Dept. as a sniper on their CERT team. Upon his retirement from the department, he was Sergeant of Patrol. Rodney then became Head of Security at Citrus Memorial Hospital, the last position he held. Mr. Bloomer is survived by his loving wife Kelly Ann Bloomer; son Justin Bloomer; four stepsons; stepsister Chastity Johnson of Zanesville, OH; father Darvin L. Bloomer; mother Fran McCalla and stepfather Lee McCalla. A Celebration of Life will be held on Mon., June 6, 2022 at 4:00 P.M. at The Church Without Walls, 300 Kensington Ave., Lecanto, FL 34461, with Pastor Douglas Alexander officiating.
